Addiction, adversity, & attachment: Supporting families impacted by parental substance use

Parental substance use is a growing public health concern that has bi-generational impact. It is critical that those who work with caregivers that have substance use disorders are familiar with how to best support their intersecting identities and intergenerational mental health. This grand rounds presentation shared information research linking addiction, adversity, and attachment to the parenting struggles and developmental risks in families affected by parental substance use.

The five-year R01 grant from the National Institutes on Drug Abuse (NIDA) will support a Type II Hybrid Effectiveness-Implementation Trial of “Mothering from the Inside Out.” The trial aims to test the implementation of an intervention for mothers with substance use disorders under real-world conditions..

Trial Court Opens Family Treatment Court in Springfield

The Massachusetts Trial Court today marked the launch of an innovative Family Treatment Court session at the Hampden County Juvenile Court in Springfield with an opening event at the courthouse. The new court session will address the critical needs of families with cases in the Juvenile Court where parental substance use is a primary or contributing factor in the case.
